Synthesis

The ability to synthesize molecules plays a vital role in modern society. At UCLA, chemical synthesis is extremely well represented with over 10 faculty members pursuing the synthesis of organic and inorganic molecules. The practical applications of such endeavors are numerous, stemming from advances in medicine to the discovery of novel materials that will ultimately impact human life.

Specific research areas include the total synthesis of natural products (Garg, Jung, Kwon, Merlic), reaction discovery and methods development (Garg, Jung, Kwon, Merlic, Diaconescu), materials synthesis (Garcia-Garibay, Garrell, Maynard, Rubin), biopolymer design and preparation (Deming, Maynard), green chemistry (Garcia-Garibay) and computational studies (Houk).
